The service that I was offered at Harbor Chase, assisted living and memory care, was noteworthy. I was shown the community by Bob Brumbaugh, Director of Maintenance, who was very helpful. He allowed me to tour two model apartments.
Harbor Chase can house up to 79 residents. The apartments come unfurnished making it capable for residents to bring their own furniture and make the apartment feel just like home. All apartments come with a small microwave and refrigerator allowing the resident to keep personal snacks and drinks.
On my tour through Harbor Chase, I was especially thrilled to see a spa. Inside the spa is a bath tub that has a sliding side wall allowing residents to get inside without stepping over. What a fantastic invention! Also, not too far down the hall is a beauty salon. Having such great amenities is only one great feature Harbor Chase has to offer.
Harbor Chase also offers fantastic activities for their residents. Some activities include cross word puzzles, trivia, and bingo. Also, every Wednesday the residents can take the bus to Publix to pick up any personal items and food. It just so happened that the day I toured Harbor Chase, it was Alzheimer’s Awareness Day. There was a seminar taught by a professional who explained how everyday life is for people who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. I think it is a great way to keep friends and family of the residents aware of what go on at Harbor Chase
Mr. Brumbaugh was very eager to tell me about the Extended Congregate Care license that Harbor Chase has. This specialty license allows Harbor Chase to provide, directly or through contract, services beyond those permissible under the standard license. The primary purpose of this license is to allow residents, as they become more impaired, the option of remaining in a familiar setting from which they could otherwise be disqualified for continued residency.
There is no need for residents at Harbor Chase to have a vehicle. Harbor Chase offers transportation to and from doctor appointments as well as a scenic route to get some fresh air. As I walked through the hallways of Harbor Chase, I also caught a glimpse of the lunch menu. The main course was Swedish meatballs and gravy with Dutch apple pie for dessert!
Located conveniently less than five miles from North Florida Regional Medical center, and across the street from a fire station, Harbor Chase is in a prime location.
