I came across a great website called www.buglesacrossamerica.org which connects military funerals with a person to play Taps.
With military funerals being a constant (it’s predicted that 500,000 veterans will die every year for the next seven years), some members of the military don’t get to have a bugle player playing Taps. Sometimes family members have had to resort to playing a recording of it.
The creators of Bugles Across America feel that every member of the military should have a live playing of Taps at their funeral. It’s easy to help out and they are very flexible with what you can play (you can even play a trumpet, cornet or flugelhorn) as long as you can play the 24 notes of Taps with ease in a respectful way.
If you are interested in volunteering, go to your local music store and check into some instruments that you can practice on. Then go to www.buglesacrossamerica.org and sign up.
