Florida Home Care

Finding a licensed home care provider in Florida does not have to be a challenge.  There are a number of home health care entities that can provide home health in Florida.   A nurse registry and a companion service offer non medical home care.  Non medical home care services provide hourly caregivers in the home for assistance with daily living.

Custodial Care

Non-Medical Home Care such as services provided by a home health are not covered by Medicare.   A long term care insurance policy does pay for an hourly caregiver however it is best to refer back to the policy to verify coverage.

Medicare Home Health

Florida residents can receive home health services under the supervision of a physician if a recent change in medical condition has occurred. A face to face encounter is required to receive service. In addition, a Medicare participate must be considered homebound where the participate has a taxing effort to leave the home.  Medicare home health is for short term intermittent care.  The nurse visits two to three times a week to monitor the patient at home and treat the patient following a physician’s order.   Often times family members believe Medicare covers an hourly caregiver in the home.  Medicare does not provide non-medical care at home, just skilled services treated by a registered nurse and/or a physical therapist.
