    Veteran’s Benefits for Assisted Living Facilities

    American Veterans in need of assistance should take advantage of benefits offered for assisted living facility care or for home care. Statutes governing Veterans’ benefits are located within Title 38 of the U.S. Code. Veterans entitled to receiving benefits can access funds after qualifying on a need basis. Consumers need to be aware that Veterans as well as certain widows or widowers are also entitled to non-service connected benefits if they meet certain conditions.

    Need to know how to pay for assisted living? For the most part, paying for assisted living is private pay unless a resident has a long term care insurance policy and/or qualified for Aid and Attendance as a Veteran or spouse. Medicare does NOT pay for assisted living.

    Medicare home health care agencies can treat and educate seniors living in adult care homes should a physician prescribe a home health care order for home physical therapy and/or a visiting nurse for only short term intermittent care.
