Having emergency room (ER) nurses provide treatment to patients with fever, chest pain, and other common symptoms can reduce the length of stay for these patients, according to a recent study. Additionally, allowing nurses to administer medication can help patients get needed medication earlier, the researchers found. Study authors warned that allowing nurses to offer treatment in the ER is a potential stopgap measure, rather than a permanent solution for ER overcrowding.
